With home improvements, it is undoubtedly the case that almost anything can be bought that will fit just about anywhere – if you are prepared to pay for it. Creating the perfect home often involves the commissioning of bespoke items – both for their individuality and for their fit. Who would have thought that something as fundamental as a staircase - bought ‘off the peg’ and delivered to your home - could be so adjustable that it would fit just about anywhere?

Ladderstore.com has a selection of modular staircases, in different sizes for interior and exterior use, which incorporate original and innovative design and more importantly can be configured to fit a multitude of options.

The Kompact Adjustable Staircase Kit (from £1224.96) is about as flexible as it gets. It is the only staircase where rise, going, height, depth and rotation can all be varied to suit – yet it is simple enough that it can be self-installed. In fact there are 152 possible different configurations. As with all staircases supplied by Ladderstore.com there are full explanatory details to enable the configuration to be designed and ordered correctly and there is also an installation video that can be viewed both prior to and after purchase.

The Kompact’s polished beech treads and matching hand rail (there is a choice of light or dark) are offset by the minimalist steel structure and internal railing which can be finished black, white or grey, there is also a matching balcony kit available.

The Klan Wood Tread Spiral Staircase is another option (from £1142.40); with beech treads, a steel frame and the choice of either 140cm or 160cm diameter. Again there are a number of colour options and the complete kit comes in one box with landing, railings, balusters and treads.

The Civik Pressed Steel Spiral Staircase (from £829.17) has a similar styling but has steel treads with slip resistant inlays and very clean lines. It offers an excellent non-wood, modern option, coming in black or white enamel or powder-coated grey.

The optional UK Riser Bar kit, available for all of the Ladderstore staircases, is a sensible precaution to ensure that the staircase meets Building Regulations. In any event it is always wise to check with the Local Building Control Officer that the proposed design, location and usage of the stairs meets with their approval.
