The UK’s largest independent powered access provider The Platform Company, were recently called upon by local contractors to facilitate maintenance work at St Mary’s stadium, the home of Southampton Football Club. After a site survey, The Genie Z-135/70 and S85 booms were identified to inspect areas of the outside of all stands to make sure the stadium enjoys its championship season in the same condition as when the team moved there in 2001.

Southampton Football Club’s Facilities Manager commented: “Our contractors have been using the Genie Z-135/70 which has a working height of 43.15 metres, for our maintenance checks of the harder to reach areas of the stadium. Due to the design of St Mary’s, we needed an articulated boom configuration with enough height and outreach to allow the operative access up and over the outside of the 36 metre high structure. The Genie S85 telescopic boom, with a working height of 27.9 metres, helped us complete various other checks around the exterior of the stadium.

Southampton Football Club, nicknamed The Saints, are currently sitting mid table in their second season in the Coca-Cola Championship following their relegation from the Premiership in 2005, where they had spent the previous 27 years.
