 | | SIKA SUPPLIES STRUCTURAL GLAZING SOLUTIONS | | | Sika Limited | | 15/10/2007 | | | Structural glazing and technical solutions supplied by Sika were used in the comprehensive re-development of Winchmore House in Fetter Lane, London, to create a contemporary commer-cial property.
The eight-storey building, owned by the British Steel Pension Fund, has been extensively re-modelled to provide around 80,000 sq ft of high quality ‘Grade A’ office space behind an impos-ing full height glazed façade.
Stripped back to its shell, the building’s exterior was replaced with approximately 4,000 sq m of SCHUCO FW50+ curtain walling, which was designed and installed by M Price Ltd. Sika’s fen-estration specialist Jeff Richards advised on challenging technical and design aspects to meet the complex structural glazing specifications of the £2 million project.
Sikasil SG 500 two-part structural silicone sealant was specified to bond the Solaglas double-glazed units, using glass 8mm and 10mm thick and typically measuring 3405mm by 1280mm. The high performance two-part sealant is fast-curing, with unrivalled resistance to UV and weathering. The units, each weighing 275kg, were then craned into position to form approxi-mately 4,000 sq m of replacement Schuco FW50+ curtain walling protecting the 1970s building.
Sika products were also used in the structural bonding and external weather-sealing of glass to glass corners and outer panels.
Within the remodelled design, by architects Darling Associates, is a modern interior, which in-cludes a new reception area. Main contractors were HBG Construction (London). | |
