CHEMIQUE TACKLES ‘MODERN ADHESIVE VS. MANUAL FIXING’:

Traditionally, raised access flooring installers have used a method of manually fixing the flooring through drilling and bolting pedestals to hold the flooring securely in place, this method is however, increasingly dying out as new techniques become the norm. Modern methods of installing access flooring today involve the use of adhesives which can bring significant benefits over the manual method, aiding in the adhesives increase in popularity.

Adhesives specifically formulated for the bonding of metal pedestals to concrete when installing raised flooring systems mean that manual fixing is no longer necessary for all pedestals. Access Flooring adhesives are capable of creating a direct bond between the floor and pedestal, allowing for a greater pedestal flexibility and shock absorption than with the manual fixing.

Modern methods of adhesive provide a proven solution to the installer when it comes to cost. The use of pedestal adhesive lowers installation time and cost per pedestal as the adhesive provides a quicker application than that of drilling and bolting. Direct costs of adhesive verses bolting also verify the pedestal adhesive as the cost effective option, which is then supported in the reduced cost as there is no requirement for electrical power, which is a must for drilling.

Providing a more efficient and easier alternative to that of drilling and bolting, the application of adhesive requires a reduced labour training requirement from its installers.

Polyped2 and Polyped2HF is an extremely popular adhesive within the industry, specifically formulated for good adhesion and flexibility.

Utilising Chemique’s rigorous quality control procedures and experience of application techniques, the Polyped range has been expanded to now include Polyped1, a one component moisture curing adhesive, containing no VOCs, requires no mixing and is ready to be used straight from the bucket which can also be stored and used when needed again. They have been designed to offer pedestal installer’s a number of advantages including that of P.S.A’s T.42 ‘swinging bag test’ and T.15 horizontal load test proving the adhesive has a permanent bond.

Installers using pedestal adhesive must assure that it is used in line with manufacturers recommendations, the Polyped range, for example, should be used in conjunction with the newly developed Universal Primer. The Universal Primer helps prepare the concrete area for adhesion, as well as acting as a dust suppressant and strengthening the concrete surface for improved bond strength.
