 | | VENTROLLA RENOVATES SEASIDE LANDMARK | | | Ventrolla | | 14/02/2008 | | | Ventrolla, the window renovation specialist, has upgraded and renovated Georgian sash windows at an historic house on the Essex coast.
Warner’s Hall in Burnham-on-Crouch has undergone a major refurbishment by the owner, Neil Kennedy, to return the property from flats to its original use as a large family home. Part of the project included renovation of the windows, some of which were more than 150 years old.
Ventrolla East Anglia were brought in during the initial planning stage by Mr Kennedy to carry out a site visit and advise on how best to approach the window renovation. As it is a grade II listed building, it was important to retain the character and charm of the building by renovating the existing wooden sash windows.
Due to its coastal location, Warner’s Hall is constantly battered by strong winds and achieving a good weather seal was key to the project.
The windows were upgraded using the Ventrolla Perimeter Sealing System (VPSS), which has been tested to Class 3 of BS 6375-1, which is equivalent to winds of 71 mph.
Neil Kennedy said: “I can’t believe the improvements the Ventrolla system has made to both the performance and appearance of these windows. It is truly remarkable when considering the windows are more than 150 years old and single glazed.
“Without the window renovation project, this house would not have been such a pleasant place to live and now it is warm and comfortable and a truly relaxing place to be.”
Managing director for Ventrolla East Anglia, Colin Grosvenor, said: “Warner’s Hall is a landmark building in the area and is grade II listed. It was therefore essential to renovate the sash windows to retain the building’s distinctive look and character, with the added benefit of reducing heat loss through the performance upgrade.”
Warner’s Hall is located close to the sea front and was built in 1848 by Mr Auger, who was a wealthy oyster merchant in the area. In 1910 it was converted into a hotel and was later used as an officers’ mess during both world wars. Following this, the building underwent further conversion into flats, which is how it remained until it was purchased by Mr Kennedy.
With its national headquarters in Harrogate, Yorkshire, Ventrolla was established in 1986 and operates via a national network of window renovation companies. | |
