 | | HOK WINS INAUGURAL AUTODESK REVIT DESIGN AWARDS | | | Autodesk | | 19/02/2008 | | | Winning entry shows ‘understanding of Revit process and slick collaboration’.
Architects, engineers and CAD managers gathered at Sketch in London last week to celebrate the strengthening impact of Autodesk Revit on their work. The occasion was the presentation of the inaugural Revit Design Awards, supported by The Architects’ Journal – and Autodesk AEC sales director Pete Baxter announced that the judging panel had been delighted by the standard of entries and the way the winning projects, “exhibited the true potential” of the building information modelling (BIM) - enabling software.
He announced that the first ever, overall winner of the competition was HOK for its work on 5 Canary Place, Canary Wharf, and London. Described by the judges as, “a classy, self-assured piece of architecture”, the design was chosen for its breadth and versatility – plus it demonstrates, “a cogent understanding of Revit as a working process.” Also noted was, “its slick collaboration of the disciplines” facilitated by the use of both Revit Architecture and Revit Structure.
“Revit Architecture alone now has over 200,000 users globally and its reach is extending fast,” says Baxter. “The award entrants demonstrate how the software gives designers the scope to actually experience their ideas before they are real, resulting in more creative, but also workable designs. The standard of entries has been exceptional and shows how users are actively changing their processes to maximise the use of the technology.”
The judges for the awards were Ruth Slavid, editor Architects’ Journal, Pete Baxter and Simon Gillis from Autodesk and the full list of winners is:
Best Residential Scheme over 500 square metres:
Winner: Sara Elliot, Empowered Space Architects - New Residence, MKB Group
Highly Commended: James Savage - Croft Mill
Best Non-Residential Scheme under 2500 square metres:
Winner: Haydn Scarborough – York Eco Depot
Highly Commended: Andrew Dobson – The Wedgwood Institute
Best Non-Residential Scheme over 2500 square metres:
Winner: Miles Walker, HOK – 5 Churchill Place, Canary Wharf
Highly Commended: Rachel Gadd, Stride Treglown – Royal Hollaway Lecture Theatre
Best Conceptual Design:
Winner: Andrew Dobson, Purcell Miller Tritton - Sheffield Festival Centre
Best Structural Design:
Winner: Michael Boyd, WSP - Forth Valley Acute Hospital
Best Student Project:
Winner: Bill Pier, Central Woodland Workshop
Overall Winner: HOK – 5 Churchill Place, Canary Wharf | |
