Kalwall translucent cladding has been used for the major refurbishment of the late 1970s local authority swimming pool in Letchworth. The cladding, on three sides between full height brick piers, replaces the curtain-walling which was failing and the double-glazing which was misting-up.

Kalwall was specified by the Estates Department of North Herts Leisure Centre because of its track record in other swimming pools, particularly its unique ability to distribute diffused daylight evenly, without shadows, glare and hotspots. Elimination of glare means that lifesavers can more easily monitor the water. Elimination of blinds and curtains means that the ingress of daylight ingress is maximised but privacy is maintained, even at night when the pool gives off an interesting and striated ethereal glow.

An important benefit of highly insulating Kalwall has been its proven contribution towards energy saving. This means that the running costs of heating, air-conditioning and artificial light have all been reduced when compared with the performance of the original glazing. Kalwall is widely used for cladding and roofing in sports halls, leisure buildings, schools and many other different buildings in the public and private sector.
