ADELAIDE WHARF BENEFITS FROM LIGHT
Dulux Trade
05/12/2007
Dulux Trade Light & Space has been used in the new Adelaide Wharf development in Shoreditch. The paint’s specialist Lumitec technology reflects up to twice as much light* - making rooms feel more spacious and contributing to the developer’s aim to reduce energy consumption.
Adelaide Wharf is a pioneering London-wide initiative between urban property developer First Base, national regeneration agency English Partnerships and construction partners Bovis Lend Lease. Over half the 147 homes will be affordable housing for key workers.
Dulux Trade Light & Space was used in the high performance Diamond Matt finish on the walls and ceilings throughout the new development. The combination of cleaner tinting recipes and specialist paint components within the Light & Space Diamond Matt paint result in surfaces that are significantly more reflective and durable. By reducing the amount of light that the painted surfaces absorb, Light & Space paint significantly increases the perception of interior space in addition to saving energy by maximising the use of natural available light rather than artificial lighting.
Tests have shown that when comparing Light & Space with a standard paint of similar hue and chroma, the light absorption value for Light & Space is half that of the standard paint.
Light & Space has been developed specifically to meet growing concerns about the environment. The BRE has evaluated the product testing and concluded that by using Light & Space paint the same average lighting levels can be achieved in a room whilst using 22% less light energy.
The results indicate an obvious advantage for energy conscious developments such as Adelaide Wharf, which is set to achieve a rating of 'Excellent' in Eco Homes, the environmental assessment carried out by the BRE.
"Light & Space helped the design team to achieve homes that are light and welcoming and at the same time help improve energy efficiency levels," explained Sean Cook, Design Manager at First Base. "We are really happy with the results."
Dulux Trade Light & Space is available in a unique range of 27 colours. It can be specified in either Flat Matt or Diamond Matt finishes.
