 | | BRITISH LIBRARY INSTALLS MINERAL INSULATED CABLE | | | AEI Cables | | 10/03/2008 | | | The British Library has chosen Mineral Insulated Cable (MIC) from AEI Cables to ensure security of power to its new state-of-the-art book storage facility containing important documents.
The MIC is being installed in the new £13.2million automated warehouse at Boston Spa, West Yorkshire, for critical electrical systems including emergency lighting, fire alarms systems and some mechanical and control panels.
It will also power an oxygen-reduction system which will ensure the reduced amount of oxygen will not enable a fire to start.
Jim Duffy, Chief Executive of AEI Cables, said: “This is an important project and we know that Mineral Insulated Cable is the only product to guarantee security of supply in all circumstances.”
Specification is by WS Atkins Leeds, main contractor for the project is Allenbuild with Rotary Northern, Leeds, and distribution is by Tobbell Electrical, Leeds.
The fully automated facility will house low and medium-use items from the library’s immense collections of books and journals, helping it to meet its storage requirements over the next decade, while also providing a storage environment that is superior to some of the premises currently in use.
The facility, which will be constructed alongside the Library’s existing buildings at its Boston Spa site, will provide additional storage capacity for seven million items for the UK national collection, and provide over 262 linear kilometres of high-density storage.
The experience gained by AEI in working across industries worldwide has resulted in one of the most comprehensive cable product ranges available anywhere.
This includes power generation and transmission, offshore, general wiring and construction, transportation, defence and cables for heavy industrial applications. | |
