 | | 3M ENHANCES ITS TRIZACT CF ABRASIVES CUTTING AND FINISHING RANGE | | | 3M Company | | 14/03/2008 | | | Abrasives belt range now available in high- and low-pressure options.
3M, the diversified technology company, has enhanced its abrasive belt range with the addition of high- and low-pressure options. Trizact CF abrasives can now work on a variety of metals, part shapes and conditions. Its consistent performance also minimises rogue scratches, virtually eliminating the need for costly reworking and improving the overall finishing process, typically by up to 30%.
The revised three-tier Trizact CF abrasives range consists of the following:
Low-Pressure CF 327DC: For use on soft contact wheels (45 shore hardness and less), rubber, cotton or foam, smooth faced contact wheels and slack-of-belt applications. Suitable for robotic operations and for working on soft metals such as aluminium, zinc and brass.
Medium-Pressure CF 337DC: For use on medium hardness contact wheels (45-70 Shore A), as well as rubber, smooth face to gentle serrated contact wheels.
High-Pressure CF 347AC: For use on hard contact wheels (70 Shore A and harder) rubber or serrated contact wheels, hard metals such as nickel alloys, titanium, and stainless steels. Suitable for more demanding applications.
The Trizact CF abrasive surface benefits from a unique microreplication structure of bricks, enabling it to rapidly remove scratches left after grinding, thereby shortening the time and effort required for polishing. It cuts like a coated abrasive belt but acts like a surface conditioning belt by leaving a finish free of belt lines. Process steps can often be consolidated or eliminated, saving both time and money.
The uniformity and depth of the 'bricks' ensures contact between the abrasive area and the working surface, resulting in a consistent, predictable cut rate and finish from beginning to end. The user also a benefit from an in-built wear indicator that shows how much life remains as the brick height diminishes.
“3M's Trizact CF abrasive can reduce rework and production costs,” explains Cheri Hayne, technical manager in 3M’s Industrial and Transportation Business. “The enhanced range allows finer, consistent finishes across a wider range of materials.
“Furthermore, users can also benefit from 3M’s vast resources to help optimise abrasive processes, grade sequences and improve overall productivity,” Hayne concludes.
3M has an extensive understanding of abrasives and the company’s technical specialists will be able to help customers identify the best tool system and working practices for each of their applications.
