Donkin Fabrications Limited has enjoyed phenomenal growth over recent years. Since the company began stocking Corus Coloursteels’ Aquatite® PVC last year, the guttering business has tripled in size, leading to the creation of 13 new jobs.

Jason Patterson, Sales & Operations Mgr at Donkin Fabrications Limited, explains: “Traditionally, guttering has always made up a smaller proportion of Donkin’s business. However, thanks to Aquatite® PVC we have been able to rapidly expand the guttering division, providing our customers with durable and long-lasting solutions that are fully guaranteed for 15 years.”

Developed specifically for rainwater applications in buildings, Aquatite® is designed to provide unbeatable drainage efficiency and protection from UV light, harsh weather conditions and general wear and tear. It requires no special handling practices and is highly formable, offering a user-friendly alternative to non-PVC alternatives.

Jason continues: “Corus provided us with specialist on-site training to help us get the most from the product. It can be installed using ‘single ply’ heat seaming techniques or chemically bonded, giving watertight and consistent results, and is far more convenient than multi-ply guttering and roofing materials, such as membranes and bitumen, which can be time consuming and messy to fit.

“It is a commonly held myth in the construction industry that PVC products are more difficult to install than traditional roofing materials. In fact, in many cases, the opposite is true. Installation is relatively simple and can often be carried out single-handedly, which is great news for smaller contracting companies – particularly in light of the current shortage of skilled welders.”

Aquatite® is compatible with other PVC membranes, including Plastisol products, and can be fabricated into virtually any shape or profile using existing equipment and methods. This provides significant cost, time and labour savings and greatly reduces the health and safety risks associated with working at height for sustained periods of time.

The product is galvanised by hot dip substrate to BS EN 10147, offering excellent corrosion resistance, even at cut edges, and has an expected life span of 20 years. Its 15 year guarantee covers the full roofing system, offering full and complete restoration in the event of any defects, and applies to the specific building so, should ownership change, it can easily be transferred.

Adds Jason: “As sustainability becomes an increasingly key issue, Aquatite’s® expected life-span of 20 years makes it an attractive choice for specifiers and facilities mangers looking for long-lasting and durable ‘fit and forget’ options. It also reduces the impact of cold bridging and minimises heat loss and condensation to aid compliance with Building Regulations Part L – again, a key consideration when specifying products.

“Aquatite® has enabled us to tender for jobs requiring pre-fabricated guttering products that simply would not have been viable with traditional guttering materials and our customers have all been delighted with the results. Donkin Fabrications now employs a team of 28 and continues to go from strength to strength.”
