BALTIC benefits from high performance solution.

Leading paint manufacturer Jotun Paints (Europe) Ltd's Jotaplast High performance coating has been specified for the prestigious BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead, Tyne & Wear.

The news comes as Jotun is signed up as a BALTIC B.Partner sponsor following the decision to establish its Decorative Division in Newcastle upon Tyne.

However, rather than provide a financial donation Jotun has agreed to give several thousands of pounds worth of paint in-kind to the arts' centre over the coming year for on-going repair and refurbishment work.

The move initially sees Jotun supplying direct from its Flixborough factory more than 500 litres of Jotaplast high quality, impact resistant, one-coat white matt emulsion.

Further quantities are expected to be provided later in the year depending on requirements.

The paint is being used to recoat all the stairwells, walkways and other public access areas at the five storeys building with a new hard wearing and easy-to- clean surface.

In addition, it is being used to repaint the walls of all the art galleries to cater for the needs of future exhibitions once the current ones finish in the spring.

Also, several dozen litres of Jotun's Jotafloor heavy duty and hardwearing coating are being supplied to provide a durable, non-slip protective surface for the loading bay floor and workshop areas.

This latest initiative follows a recent move by Jotun to provide free paint to Egyptian artist Mona Marzouk to enable her to produce a large wall painting as part of her first UK exhibition, which is currently on show at BALTIC.

Chris Duffy, BALTIC development officer, said: "We would like to thank Jotun for its kind generosity.

"I’m sure the move will be a terrific boost for the company as it gears up its presence throughout the UK.

"The new paint not only offers a smart visual solution but, because only one coat is required it will save us considerably in terms of application time and labour costs."

Jotun’s technical adviser for the project Richard Gledhill said: "We are delighted to support BALTIC and look forward to enjoying its facilities over the coming months.

"It's also the latest of several projects that will benefit from the high performance, easy-to-maintain, long lasting and aesthetic qualities of our coatings."

Jotaplast is a non-toxic, solvent free and hard wearing paint based on a tough but flexible co-polymer emulsion which provides excellent opacity and a durable finish. It’s ideal for the decoration and protection of interior ceilings, walls, cement, building boards, and wallpaper and glass fibre among others.
