 | | PLASTER REVOLUTION | | | British Gypsum | | 23/04/2008 | | | After almost two years in development, British Gypsum has launched a revolutionary new super-hardwearing finish plaster, Thistle Durafinish.
Thistle Durafinish is around 60% tougher than existing finish plasters and has been shown to brush aside the everyday knocks and scrapes that can damage existing plaster finishes, especially in high traffic areas like corridors and stairwells in schools, hospitals and similar buildings.
Equally suitable for skim finishing over plasterboard or as a final coat in two-coat plastering systems, Thistle Durafinish is a direct substitute for traditional finish plasters in both new build and refurbishment. Applied to a 2mm thickness, it has the same working characteristics and feels as a normal finish plaster and dries to the usual high quality smooth plaster finish.
That’s where the similarity ends, however. In a series of rigorous tests at British Gypsum’s Building Test Centre, walls finished with Thistle Durafinish were subjected to simulated glancing impacts, scratching and abrasion, and in each case surface damage after repeated exposure was either insignificant or much less than with a normal plastered surface.
Coloured grey to distinguish it on site from normal pink finishing plaster, Thistle Durafinish accepts decoration in exactly the same way and can, if preferred, be applied only in selected high traffic areas without impacting on the internal design or appearance of the building.
For very heavily trafficked areas, it can be specified in conjunction with British Gypsum’s GypWall EXTREME partition system to provide the ultimate impact resistant solution that will guarantee performance well beyond BS5234: Part2 Severe Duty, the most extreme impact resistant standard currently available.
Not surprisingly, the extra performance of Thistle Durafinish does come at a premium over traditional finish plaster, but its unique properties enable the contractor to expand the scope of his work and add value through reduced ongoing maintenance costs and disruption for the client.
New Thistle Durafinish comes in 25kg bags, each giving around 10m2 coverage at recommended thickness. Unlike other specialist finishes, it is readily available in any quantity; from a single bag upwards, through British Gypsum’s national network of merchant and distributor stockists. | |
