STANNAH MICROLIFT - ‘A NECESSARY INNOVATION’
Stannah
30/05/2008
This is how Channel 4’s Grand Designs presenter and architect Kevin McCloud described a Stannah Microlift (dumb waiter) - ’a necessary innovation’ to achieve practical living over several floors. He was reviewing Huguenot House, a finalist in the 2008 Grand Designs ‘Best Restoration Category’.
The 17th century building was somewhat dilapidated when Chris and Sarah Dyson acquired the property for restoration. Now the historic townhouse in the Spitalfields district of London has become their family home and the home of Chris Dyson Architects.
When the new kitchen and dining area were located in a ‘weaver’s loft’ rooftop extension a Stannah Microlift became a ‘must’. The goods lift stops on all four floors and is truly invaluable when it is time to unload the family shopping!
In fact, the original dumb waiters in grand London homes were installed to aid service from ‘downstairs’ to ‘upstairs’, without the necessity for your guests to see the servants!
