Tarmac Buxton Lime and Cement has made two key additions to its renowned White Peak range of traditional lime products.

The first is Natural Hydraulic Lime (NHL), which can be used to produce high class lime mortar for internal and external work. The second, a Lime Putty, is designed to produce slower-setting lime mortars and plasters and renders.

Both new products are available now, backed by the same quality service that has made White Peak Limewash a market leader.

Lime is one of the oldest building materials, used in the UK for centuries. And recently this natural material has been making a comeback. That’s thanks in part to the growing market in restoration and conservation work for historic and period buildings. Also lime is finding a role in new build, as the drawbacks of modern materials are recognised.

Modern cement mortar is very hard and fast setting, and this can be detrimental to the durability of masonry construction. It has no flexibility.

Yet lime mortars are more forgiving. They are breathable, allowing the passage of air and moisture. Crucially, they are also less brittle and rigid, and allow slight movements of the building fabric. This reduces or eliminates the need for expansion joints, and minimises the problems of cracks.

White Peak NHL is the easiest way of using lime in mortar. It combines the traditional benefits of lime with a relatively fast set and early strength. NHL will set in damp conditions, and sets further over time, by absorbing carbon dioxide.

White Peak Lime Putty sets far more slowly, again by absorbing carbon dioxide. This slow process allows for small movements of buildings before the final set. It’s ideal for restoration and conservation work.

White Peak already has a fine pedigree in the building industry. Limewash is one of the earliest forms of paint. It provides an inexpensive coating that gives protection and beauty to render, masonry and plasterwork. White Peak Limewash is the best on the market. Its super-fine formulation combines these traditional qualities with the benefits of modern know-how.
