Single ply roofing solutions specialist, Sarnafil, is celebrating an historic hat-trick with its contribution to the groundbreaking High Speed 1 rail project.

London & Continental Railways, the company responsible for the project, specified Sarnafil roofs at all three stations forming the HS1 network – St Pancras, and Ebbsfleet and Stratford Internationals.

Justifiably, the £800million restoration of St Pancras has been called the ‘jewel in the crown’ of HS1. The station’s famous Barlow Shed required a 230-metre extension to accommodate the 400-metres Eurostar trains it now plays host to – located behind Sir William Barlow’s 1868 single-span arch, this new shed features Sarnafil’s striking roof.

With the extension as well as the work at Ebbsfleet and Stratford all featuring flat-roof designs, Sarnafil was the clear choice for London & Continental Railways from the start. Its S327-12EL light grey membrane with zinc capping also achieved the all-over zinc-roofing look initially considered for a fraction of the cost.

Installed in two phases, this stunning saw-tooth structure of repetitive northlights uses Sarnafil high-tensile 1.2mm membrane mechanically fastened with the SarnaBar system to secure against wind uplift.
