Revolutionary new wood showcased at Glasgow's Lighthouse.

BSW Timber’s revolutionary new product Accoya will underline its credentials as a leading modified wood at a prestigious seminar in Glasgow later this month.

Accoya will feature prominently at the one-day seminar, Wood Modification: Architecture and Construction Opportunities, at The Lighthouse on 25th June.

Some of the UK's leading architects, consulting and structural engineers, housing associations, developers and house-builders are expected to attend the event, which has been organised by Napier University's Centre for Timber Engineering.

The seminar will focus on the growing prominence of modified wood in the UK, provide an introduction on the availability of the material, document European design advances and outline technical and production standards.

Two unique heavy traffic road bridges at the city of Sneek in the Netherlands, both constructed from Accoya, will be highlighted at the seminar. Haiko Maijer, the architect behind the bridges, which have a span of more than 30 metres and an 80-year design life, will discuss the project.

John Alexander, of BSW Timber, who will give one of the three presentations on Accoya, said: "There are now some excellent case-studies which demonstrate the wide array of applications for Accoya.

"Accoya has tremendous versatility of applications, from around the garden to exterior cladding such as doors and windows. There is clearly demand for long life, low maintenance and sustainable timber options and Accoya fits the bill perfectly."

Accoya has represented the gold standard in exterior timber technology for decades. It is now available commercially and crucially achieves both sustainability and dramatically improved technical performance.

Commercial production of Accoya by Titan Wood, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Accsys Technologies plc, began last year at a new 30,000 m3 plant at Arnhem, Netherlands. The plant is the first of its type and represents a multi-million pound investment in capital and research & development.

BSW signed an exclusive agreement with Titan Wood to be the sole supplier of Accoya across the UK and Ireland. This followed extensive collaboration between the two companies since Titan Wood's formation in 2003.
