PARKING SOLUTION

Cardok

The number of households with two or more cars has quadrupled in the past 25 years, but the increasing cost of land and growth in brownfield development has created a major issue- where to park them?

Cardok is an innovative above/belowground parking solution that in effect doubles the available parking- whilst simultaneously increasing security beyond a conventional garage and adding value to the property.

The Cardok parking bay sits flush with ground level, but raises and lowers, creating two parking spaces in the room for one. Each deck can carry up to 2.5tonnes- more than the weight of most 4X4’s- yet is very energy efficient. Operated by remote control, the car driver does not even have to get out of the vehicle to trigger the Cardok and park. Cardok takes only 25 seconds to raise or lower completely.

Cardok’s lack of visual impact on the surroundings means planning permission for the system will often be granted where permission for a garage would have been refused. It can also be a contributory factor in obtaining planning consent for multi-occupancy developments, where adequate parking could provide grounds for objection or refusal of permission.

Cardok evolved because its inventor Alastair Newing had only insecure off-road parking at his home in Clifton, Bristol, and his car had been vandalised several times; the local council would not have given permission for a garage, but did give permission for his Cardok.

The Cardok cost compares to a traditional garage build, and according to independent estate agents can add up to 7% to the value of the property. Yet it is constructed in a fraction of the time: Cardok can be operational within 3 days of delivery to site.

Alastair Soper, Cardok managaing director, observes, “In the balancing of budgets and statistics, Cardok provides an effective, discreet means of increasing parking capacity.”
