 | | NEW RSL FLOOR GIVES BAE SYSTEMS WINGS | | | Resin Surfaces Ltd (RSL) | | 15/07/2008 | | | Resin flooring manufacturer Resin Surfaces Ltd has teamed up with specialist contractor, Protective Coating Systems (PCS) to furnish a major aerospace manufacturing facility in South West England with a fit-for-purpose floor.
The facility in Filton, near Bristol, is where BAE Systems develops and assembles wings for a range of civilian aircraft. The complex production processes requires a clean and dust free working environment. To achieve this, BAE Systems turned to resin manufacturer Resin Surfaces (RSL) who put forward the specification and PCS, specialist flooring specialist contractor, laid 9,000m2 of resin-based flooring at the site.
PCS managing director, Daryl Hopkins, comments: “The existing floor was a standard concrete surface, which had been patched over the years and was vulnerable to chemical attack from the aircraft fuel used in the hangar. RSL recommended a complete refurbishment designed to leave behind a floor equal to the challenges faced by a major aerospace facility.”
After shot blasting, the underlying slab was repaired using RSL epoxy mortar repair kits. The floor surface was then primed using RSL’s Resuprime, to seal the concrete and two coats of Resutop LV were then applied. This high build solvent free epoxy resin coating has been specially formulated to withstand industrial environments where floor surfaces can expect aggressive chemical attack.
Durability and chemical resistance were the key watchwords here, which is why RSL specified Resutop for this project. The quality of the products mean they provide end users with a tough and long-lasting floor surface that can be trusted to cope with the wear and tear of a busy manufacturing environment.
RSL managing director, Ivy Wroe, concludes: “A showcase production facility such as this deserves a showcase floor. All RSL products have been developed to provide contractors and end users alike with an affordable and practical solution, and we are delighted to see it in action in such a prestigious project.” | |
