 | | KINNARPS FURNISHES THE WORLDS GREENEST BUILDING | | | Kinnarps UK Ltd | | 17/07/2008 | | | Kinnarps has been chosen to supply all interior furnishings when the leading international organization for sustainable development, IUCN, plans their new head office in Gland, Switzerland. IUCN aims to create the greenest office building in the world. Kinnarps was selected for its long-term dedication to sustainable production and development.
IUCN’s new head office, the IUCN Conservation Centre, will take 95% of its energy needs from renewable sources like solar power and geothermia. IUCN has also chosen partners with a clear sustainable profile in their segments. Kinnarps is the only Swedish supplier.
Kinnarps’ furnishing products were chosen because of the company’s long tradition of sustainable efforts with their active support of the FSC, the independent international organization for responsible forest stewardship, playing an important part. Since its foundation in 1942 Kinnarps has grown to become the third largest office furnishing supplier in Europe with distribution in 25 countries.
“One key objective for IUCN’s new Conservation Centre is to create a global showcase whereby the highest standards for ecological efficiency are met,” explains Mrs. Julia Marton-Lefèvre, IUCN’s Director General. “Working with partners such as Kinnarps who are committed to sustainable principles enables us to realize this vision at its fullest potential.”
IUCN is the world’s oldest and biggest global environmental network with 10 000 scientists and more than 1 000 governmental agencies and non-governmental organizations in 181 countries. The IUCN Conservation Centre will be a meeting place for any organization interested in sustainable development around the world.
“A sustainable approach to the environment has always been a cornerstone for Kinnarps. That’s why it’s even more gratifying to be chosen as partner by an important global organization as IUCN. At the same time it will fuel our efforts to be even more sustainable in the future”, says Henry Jarlsson, CEO and president of the Kinnarps Corporation, also son of the founders, Jarl and Evy Andersson.
The architecture of the building will minimize the energy consumption. Balconies and adjustable blinds will help avoid overheating in summer and allow passive solar gain in winter, while taking advantage of natural light throughout the space. Kinnarps products, with their Scandinavian design and environmental profile will fit into this green building perfectly. | |
