 | | YORPOWER SUPPLIES RENTAL GENERATOR TO RESCUE TUG HMRT GOLDEN CROSS | | | Yorpower Manufacturing Limited | | 23/07/2008 | | | Yorkshire-headquartered Generator supplier Yorpower Manufacturing Limited is to supply on-board power generation for the historic Rescue Tug HMRT Golden Cross when she is berthed at Hayle, Cornwall, for the remainder of 2008. The generator will be supplied and supported by Yorpower’s After market and Hire division, Power Plant Services, from their depot in Bristol.
The Standby Rescue Tug HMRT Golden Cross was Europe’s first diesel-geared standby rescue tug and was also an Official Escort to HM Yacht Britannia. She is now the last of her class in the world.
HMRT Golden Cross has been invited to berth at Hayle as the centre-attraction of a new multi-million pound development. The Hayle development involves major site clearance, demolition of a power station, construction of new marina facilities, retail outlets, leisure facilities and new homes and is the largest regeneration programme scheduled for the South West.
Over the past five years, with support & assistance from HMG, the US Embassy, the Ministry Of Defence, the US Department of Defence, the ship has been carrying out a 6,000 sea-mile tour of 34 ports. During this time she has been promoting ways in which armed forces assist local communities (search & rescue, humanitarian missions, rapid response to emergency scenarios such as floods, hurricane earthquake etc).
Whilst on tour, HMRT Golden Cross was also supported by both Royal Navy & RAF Search & Rescue helicopters.
The 27kVA generator will be used on board HMRT Golden Cross as a primary power source running approx 12 hours each day. Yorpower are delighted to be providing this unique vessel with support at her new permanent home. | |
