Stormking, the glass fibre building products specialist, has recently completed an inspection of a project carried out for Tamworth District Council. The refurbishment project replaced the flat roofs on porches which had come to the end of their life expectancy after 12-13 years in service.

The Stormking solution involved replacing the whole roof with their own grp equivalent, which the inspection has shown to still be in perfect working order after 20 years. In addition the Stormking grp complete one-piece roof does not suffer from the leaks which are often associated after a time with felt roofs at the joints. Neither do they require any painting as the fascias are also part of the complete grp roofs.

This is just one of the many building products produced by Stormking, whose range also includes bay window roofs in lead or tile effect or with trusses for tiling, door canopies and surrounds in a host of styles, columns and porticos and complete one piece dormers.

“There is no sign of failure whatsoever after 20 years” says Stormking Commercial Director Barry Whitehall “In fact they still look as good as new and we are confident they will continue so for another 20 years. They are a very cost efficient system with their longlife expectancy compared to traditional felt and bitumen roofs which have been a typical specification over the years. Today’s modern grp building materials offer many benefits to local authorities, housing associations and house builders in on site convenience as well as cost savings.”
