 | | ELECTRAK IS ON THE CASE AT SCOTLAND YARD | | | Electrak International | | 25/07/2008 | | | A modular power distribution system from Electrak has helped to support the future flexibility of the Metropolitan Police Force as part of a refurbishment at Scotland Yard.
Over 250 metres of Electrack busbar has replaced the existing hard wired power distribution system on four floors of the Victoria Block and floor 12 of the Tower Block at Scotland Yard as part of an overhaul of the buildings’ lighting, power and data services. Consultant Atkins specified a modular power distribution system for the refurbishment and electrical contractor, McDonald Brown Ltd suggested Electrack busbar, as the company had used it on several previous installations.
Installed in both the ceiling and under floor voids depending on the requirements of the individual floors, the plug and play system was chosen to enable future modifications to Scotland Yard’s power distribution requirements to be put in place quickly and easily. In all 30 1.2m lengths of track and 90 2.4m lengths of track were installed during the six month installation, supplying all the small power needs for the floors concerned.
Along with the busbar, Electrak has also supplied 600 Rotasoc desk module units to provide a convenient power supply at the point of use.
“We had not chosen the desk modules,” explained Terry Hedges from McDonald Brown, “but when Electrak suggested we use Rotasoc it seemed the perfect solution for the project. Not only does each socket turn 3600 to make it easier to plug in equipment from any direction, but the system also has the advantage of being modular so, as Scotland Yard’s needs change they can simply add additional Rotasoc units on a plug and play basis.” | |
