Aon has chosen Kedington to implement a brand new SYSTIMAX Structured Cabling System and a 3Com Voice and Data Network solution to support the firm's 350 staff at its new Dublin city headquarters.

The new 3Com installation allows Aon to enjoy a high speed data network and a cost-effective VoIP installation, based on Avaya technology that will reduce phone bills dramatically. Management of the switch infrastructure is made easier by the use of 3Com Network Director.

AON also selected Kedington to carry out a state-of-art cabling installation based on SYSTIMAX Solutions GigaSPEED XL product line. The installation was designed by Kedington in conjunction with AON, and will meet AON's current and future network requirements for the next 15 years. Kedington also provided an Avocent KVM IP Solution and Riello UPS as part of the overall package.

"The main goal was to implement a new Voice and Data Network Solution to support our 350 staff into the next several years, as well as facilitating centralization of services and back office systems," explains Brian Lynch, head of IT for Aon. "We also needed to upgrade the aging technology that we had for years in our old premises."

Aon McDonagh Boland is part of Aon Corporation, the leading global provider of risk management services, insurance and reinsurance brokerage and human capital consulting. Through its 36,000 professionals worldwide, Aon delivers distinctive client value via innovative and effective risk management and workforce productivity solutions.

"The submission from Kedington based on our tender document was by far the most professional and gave us not just a single solution but many options and variations," says Lynch. "It was from this submission that we decided to run with separate Voice and Data Networks using 3COM equipment."

"Like all large companies today, AON was faced with a difficult decision at the design stage. The need for 99.999% uptime drove AON towards Kedington, the Irish leader in Structured Cabling Installations, and SYSTIMAX, the Global Leader in Structured Cabling Products. The combined strengths of these two market leaders in the Structured Cabling Industry, guaranteed AON a best-in-breed cabling network," explains Rory MacMahon, sales manager with Kedington.

"As with the cabling network, quality, reliability and investment protection could not be compromised in the design of the network to support IP Voice and Data traffic. Together with Aon, we designed a solution that leverages the advantages of a converged IP network while having all of the robustness of separate networks. The 3Com solution chosen is scalable, manageable, resilient and extremely cost effective" says Adrian Sadlier, Solutions Division Sales Manager with Kedington
