When the famous steel window manufacturer Crittall Windows decided to move from their historic Braintree production site to a new 65,000square foot factory 10 miles away in Witham, the Teseo modular aluminium airline pipework system was top of Ivan Patchett’s shopping list.

As works manager Ivan had to plan the factory move, making certain first that the main power services were in place so that as machinery was installed in the new location it could be in production right away. Compressed air tools are used throughout the Crittall Window production lines and it was essential that this capacity was available from day one of the move. Twin rotary screw compressors are the heart of the system delivering 713 cubic feet per minute at 8-bar pressure to the driers and the 80mm internal diameter Teseo aluminium pressure ring main.

“Our choice of the Teseo modular system was really determined by our very tight time frame for the move. The Teseo system is really so easy and so quick to install that whilst the product price may be higher than old fashioned galvanised steel, it is miles quicker to install, doesn’t leak and does not rust. One man, even a semi skilled fitter, can install a 50 metre run in an hour. The 5 metre sections are so easy to handle whereas that length of steel is quite a weighty piece and the twin O-ring joints slide in easily and just clamp together. We had hangers for power line trays in place so the Teseo pipework was quickly hooked up. It is also so easy to add connections anywhere that you need it without shutting down the whole plant,” said Mr Patchett.

Crittall installed their own Teseo airline system featuring a 80mm ID ring main with both 63mm and 32mm drops to serve the various grinding and drilling workstations. Where machines arrived from the old location complete with service air pipework, this was coupled to the Teseo supply lines to speed installation. Crittall’s 150 production staff completed their move in four months and maintained steel window production at an impressive 350 window frames per day thanks to the easy-to-install Teseo modular airline pipework system.
