 | | TEAMWORK ENSURES LIGHTNING RESCUE FOR POTATO FARMER | | | Bitzer UK | | 04/08/2008 | | | When lightning struck Dounepark Farms near Banff early one morning, the electrical surge put at risk the livelihood of farmer Duncan Dickson. 100,000 Tonnes of valuable potato seed were now suddenly in jeopardy as one of the phases on the motor of a BITZER compressor in the refrigeration plant had been burnt out during the surge. Thanks, however, to outstanding teamwork between contractor Advanced Refrigeration Ltd, Bitzer UK and APLE Courier Services, the situation was saved in the shortest possible time.
After the lightning strike, Duncan Dickson immediately contacted his contractor Advanced Refrigeration Ltd of Methlick, Aberdeenshire, who in turn contacted Bitzer UK to obtain a replacement compressor. Then, Bitzer UK’s on-call Managing Director Mark Sowden took up the challenge, driving to the company’s HQ whilst in contact with both his Warehouse Manager, who would be needed to operate the forklift truck to load compressor, and APLE International and National Courier Services. They would be taking the compressor to Banff on an 8 hour journey – some 425miles from the Bitzer UK HQ in Milton Keynes.
The compressor arrived by ten o’clock that evening and was promptly fitted by Advanced Refrigeration Ltd. Disaster had been averted and Duncan Dickson was ecstatic: “The service I received from Advanced Refrigeration Ltd and Bitzer UK was outstanding. There is no doubt that their extremely fast response saved our potato seed stock.”
