 | | ABB TO SHOWCASE NEW CONSUMER UNIT THAT ASSISTS CONTRACTORS IN COMPLYING WITH THE 17TH EDITION WIRING REGULATIONS | | | ABB Ltd | | 06/08/2008 | | | ABB (stand G13) will be demonstrating how its products are suitable for use in installations conforming to the new 17th Edition Wiring Regulations at ELEX 2008, 18th September and 19th September at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.
Among the products on display will be the Housemaster Compact consumer unit, aimed at domestic and light commercial applications. Fully suitable for use in 17th Edition installations, the Housemaster Compact offers increased cabling space and a flexible split load option, providing expanded protection and isolation capabilities. The new consumer units feature a main isolating switch which feeds either two essential circuits and controls any other circuits via two residential current devices (RCD), whilst a second variation offers isolator control of the 2 RCD sections only.
The Housemaster Compact can also accommodate non-standard configurations. Instead of being confined to typical combinations of 4+4 or 6+6 only, it provides extra flexibility by enabling installers to achieve variations including 3+5 or 2+6.
Visitors will also be able to obtain a copy of ABB’s new leaflet explaining the implications of the 17th Edition Wiring Regulations on consumer unit installations. The 12-page publication explores some of the more common examples of where the new regulations will be applied and highlights ABB’s consumer unit offering for typical installations affected by the regulations.
Other products on show will include ABB’s passive infra-red (PIR) movement sensors. Boasting a 16-metre range, these devices eliminate the blind spots beneath and immediately behind most sensors’ normal visual ranges, even when placed above a window or door. Microprocessor technology also offers an expanded range of functions, including an anti-dazzle feature which protects against the PIRs being affected by any sudden flooding of light, for example from a car’s headlights.
The stand will also feature examples from ABB’s range of EPack contractor products. Readily available from a growing network of stockists throughout the UK, ABB’s EPack products include options for almost every type of electrical application including distribution, switching, control equipment and a comprehensive selection of domestic wiring accessories and consumer units. | |
