By achieving the A-rating, Interface Europe has demonstrated that it makes a reduced impact on the environment through the manufacture of its products compared with the industry average. This covers a number of environmental aspects, including air and water pollution, energy use, environmental implications of materials and CO2 issues. Through this, customers can rest assured that when choosing Interface, they are significantly reducing their environmental impact.
BRE Certification Ltd is a part of the BRE Trust, a charitable company whose objectives are, through research and education, to advance knowledge, innovation and communication in all matters concerning the built environment for public benefit. BRE Certification Ltd is a third party certification body offering confirmation that products, services, systems and personnel meet and continue to meet certain standards and specifications.
To qualify for BREEAM, a building is assessed against specific performance criteria and credits are awarded in each area according to performance. A set of environmental weightings then enables the credits to be added together to produce a single overall score. The building is then rated on a scale of `Pass', `Good', `Very Good' or `Excellent', and a certificate awarded. BREEAM is highly regarded by the UK's construction and property sectors as the measure for best practice in environmental design and management, and its success can be attributed to its unique ability to cover a wide range of environmental issues within one assessment.
