The bathrooms in the tanker, which is permanently moored off Shetland, had been suffering as the existing vinyl flooring contracted and expanded, losing adhesion and becoming a costly maintenance issue. Specialist flooring contractor, REME Industrial Flooring Ltd, specified RSL products to provide a seamless, hardwearing and easily cleaned surface that would protect the underlying metal flooring from water damage.
REME managing director, Paul Dines, said: “RSL’s Resuseal and Resutop products were ideal for the specific requirements of a hardworking floor in a difficult environment. They have the flexibility to move with the metal flooring beneath it as it changes shape with temperature fluctuations and the constant movement of the tanker.
“The system has also simplified cleaning and maintenance, so that the mildew problems that had plagued the bathrooms have become a thing of the past. And because RSL provides such consistently reliable and reasonably priced, they were our first choice for this challenging installation. To date, we have installed floors in 14 bathrooms on the ship, with 15 more to go. ”
Ivy Wroe, managing director of RSL, said: “This sort of environment is the ultimate challenge for a flooring installation, but our products are more than up to the job. We have an excellent and well-established relationship with REME as a company and with Paul & Mark, and we’re looking forward to the next challenge they brings us!” | |
