LOGISTICS COMPANY FINDS TEMPORARY COOLING SOLUTION “EASY”

Carrier Rental Systems has supplied temporary cooling to one of the UK’s leading logistical facilities in the East Midlands to enable a case-pick operation involving confectionery to run at full pace during the summer months. This is no ordinary ‘in and out’ contract. Here, the client has grasped the nettle to provide an intermediate ‘semi-permanent’ solution with the support of the technical team at Carrier Rental Systems.

The distribution company’s on-site premises manager explains “We have a real ‘plug and play’ system here. It is a very easy solution. It has to be. The job is complicated enough without having to worry about the temporary cooling operation. We are well supported by Carrier Rental.”

Carrier Rental System’s specification team designed the flow and return pipework to the high bay area within the ambient case-picking warehouse. It maintains clearance for fork-lift trucks and has no impact beyond what is required. The power is supplied from the building’s own supply via an external distribution board close to the chiller and local power for the air handling units. Suitable specialised valve couplings are provided at each end and the outdoor chiller and the indoor air handling units are just ordered up by Innovate as soon as they are needed to maintain the temperature in the confectionery area.

The chiller is a dual circuit 350 kW machine and as such provides built-in emergency cover. The four 75 kW air handling units are powerful pieces of equipment and control the temperature over a large eight bay area deep within the building.
