Waterstones Piccadilly, in the heart of London’s West End, is Europe’s largest bookstore and includes a coffee shop, 5th View bar and a dedicated events space which has hosted book signings for the likes of Sir Paul McCartney, David Beckham and President Clinton. Formerly Simpson’s department store and the inspiration for ‘Are You Being Served’, Waterstones Piccadilly opened in 1999 and the eight storey building stocks over 200,000 titles.

Hamworthy Dorchester DR-LP water heaters were chosen by Capitol Engineering Services Ltd as a direct replacement for older Hamworthy models during a recent refurbishment, ensuring that Waterstones will never be short of hot water.

“Basically the old water heaters needed renewing,” commented Steve Perry, “and as the previous Hamworthy models had performed well over many years, we decided to replace like-for-like.”

Two Dorchester DR-LP 45 direct fired water heaters were installed, giving a continuous output of 1,930 l/h; and with a combined storage capacity of 624 litres, can easily cope with the demands of Waterstones Piccadilly.

The DR-LP model, like all Dorchester water cylinders, is constructed of high grade steel and coated with a high quality vitreous enamel lining. Two large inspection doors provide easy access for servicing and the cylinder is covered with a 50cm CFC free foam insulation to ensure that standing losses are kept to a minimum - and all protected by the robust steel casing.

Dorchester direct fired water heaters are an energy efficient solution for the supply of hot water. Hot water can be generated close to the point of use, reducing heat loss through the system and also reducing installation and maintenance costs, plus they are available for firing natural gas, LPG or oil.

The fast heat up and recovery times of the installed Dorchester DR-LP models will ensure that Waterstones Piccadilly demands for hot water are met efficiently and effectively for many years.

The Dorchester range consists of 34 models in total with continuous outputs from 585 litres/hour to 3241 litres/hour and storage capacities from 227 litres to 483 litres, making them the perfect choice for any installation requiring domestic hot water.
