 | | THINK YOU KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT GLASS? | | | SCHOTT UK Ltd | | 18/08/2008 | | | Visitors to Schott Glass’ stand G60 at 100% Detail will be asked to think again when it comes to using glass. From the truly inspirational, to the dramatically atmospheric, Schott, a world leader in glass technology, will demonstrate how architectural glass can be used to realise any creative vision.
NARIMA® is a dichroic colour effect glass developed to meet the growing demand from architects and specifiers for glass that will transform in colour, depending upon the environment. The variable iridescent colour formations are achieved by applying ultra thin metal oxide coatings to a range of base glasses that are hard, scratch resistant and extremely resistant to chemicals. The combination of high and low refractive layers results in striking rainbow effect reflections.
Inspired by NARIMA glass, many artists have incorporated the stunning glass effect into their work and several pieces will be displayed on the Schott stand. One such artist, Chris Levine, utilised the latest in 3D image recording equipment to fashion an original Lenticular portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, based on numerous individual pictures and Commissioned by the Jersey Heritage Trust to mark 800 years of Jersey’s allegiance to the Monarchy. From Chris’ ‘Lightness of Being’ show Equanimity, an illuminated single frame No.50 from the original hologram portrait sequence which uses a Narima glass overlay will be on show at the exhibition.
Ideal for applications such as shop windows, showrooms or panorama restaurants, AMIRAN® is an optical interference anti-reflective glass that has been dip-coated using a specialist method developed by Schott. AMIRAN is up to 90% less reflective than standard glass, even when curved or shaped, and offers unbeatable weather resistance and easy clean properties. As a result, AMIRAN provides an amazing transparency, and also reduces the artificial lighting needed inside a building.
Fascinating possibilities are available with MOODGLASS® that incorporates the 3-dimensional texture and surface of a wallcovering and encapsulates this between two layers of AMIRAN. This makes it possible to feature fabrics as design elements in buildings that are usually subjected to wear and tear.
The ability to manipulate light can have stunning effects on the eye and combined with reflecting surfaces makes for an amazing creation. MIRONA™ is a mineral glass that has been coated on both sides with an optical interference layer to enable distinctive and unbelievable reflections and transparency effects. In front of a lit background, MIRONA™ looks like a transparent pane of glass and in front of a dark surface the glass acts as a mirror, providing a homogeneous, silvery brilliance.
“We are constantly responding to demand and developing various technological processes to produce glass that creates the most striking and inspirational effects,” says James Wilson Marketing Services Manager at Schott Glass.
”Whether for commercial, retail or leisure, truly awe-inspiring creations as well as those that fulfil a function can completely enhance the architectural form of a building or interior. Exhibiting at 100% Detail gives us the chance to display our extensive range of products and technology,” | |
