 | | HOMEOWNERS ENCOURAGED TO INVEST IN EXISTING PROPERTIES, AS HOUSE PRICES CONTINUE TO DECLINE | | | The Rooflight Company | | 19/08/2008 | | | The Rooflight Company is urging homeowners to invest in increasing the value of their homes now, in preparation for the market upturn.
Homeowners should invest money in maintaining or increasing the value of their existing properties, as the full effects of the economic downturn start to be felt. As house prices continue to fall, The Rooflight Company - the UK’s leading provider of high quality rooflights, roof windows and skylights - is advising on cost-effective measures to combat lost property values.
House prices in England are predicted to fall by 4.4% in 2008 and a further 2.1% in 2009, before starting to recover again by 2010*. Members of the building and construction industry are therefore urging homeowners to focus on maintaining the value of their property in the short-term to ensure they’re prepared when the market upturn begins.
Peter King, Co-Chair & Founder of the Rooflight Company, says: “Usually, homeowners have two options: to move or to improve. However, as the effects of the credit crunch are being increasingly felt, people are choosing to remain where they are until the market is more positive. This means that, although the short-term outlook is bleak, homeowners should be thinking about cost-effective options that will allow them to maximise the value of their property when the market recovers.”
There are a number of practical options available to homeowners wanting to add value to their homes, including installing modern rooflights to create extra living space with a loft conversion.
“Adding modern rooflights to a loft area is a cost-effective and practical way to maximise space usage – instantly increasing the value of your property. Modern rooflights also provide environmental benefits and, combined with excellent insulation properties, play their part in controlling spiralling energy costs as fuel prices remain high and autumn approaches,” says King.
As well as cost benefits, more and more people are also starting to recognise the positive effects which ‘daylighting’ has on their health and well-being.
“Demand for buildings that allow greater amounts of sunlight to penetrate the interior of their home or workplace has increased exponentially in the past few years, as the importance of ‘daylighting’ on our health and mental agility becomes increasingly recognised. This trend looks only set to continue,” says King. | |
