Loft conversion projects can be a stunning addition to any home but traditionally ventilation of the area has been as technical as having the skylight open or closed, not an ideal scenario. However, loft conversions can now benefit from natural light and controlled passive ventilation, thanks to Sola Skylights' Sky Lightport unit.
Natural light solutions are increasingly popular with householders keen to enjoy the obvious qualities they offer the home - such as the incentive of reduced electricity bills and the light being friendlier to the eye than the artificial glare of lamps.
Lofts have for years utilised the direct access to the skies above they enjoy, traditionally with conventional skylights and hinged windows. The Sky Lightport is different, in that it guides daylight into the loft area while also providing ventilation without having to be opened in the same manner as a hinged window.
Mounted under a crystal clear roof dome, the highly polished stainless steel inner rim of the unit deflects daylight into the room so extra natural light can be enjoyed even during the darkest parts of the day.
The Sky Lightport's manually controlled passive ventilation in the dome upstend allows controlled air circulation. This is a real attraction for properties where fully-opening windows are not practical. An added option on the 400 and 500mm diameters, is the Adjustair unit, which will give more flexibility and control at ceiling level.
The unit is available in four sizes - SL350, SL400, SL500 and SL550(mm) - and there are models for tile, slate or flat roofs, and all fit between 600mm (24 inch) frame centres.
A twenty-year manufacturer's certificate is issued with each Sky Lightport to guarantee against manufacturing defects, rust, corrosion and weather deterioration of the main components.
