The sponsorship follows Inviron's increasing presence on the RAF base and the strong relationship it has built up with both RAF and Defence Estates' personnel, while carrying out a building services measured term contract (MTC). The contract covers all aspects of mechanical, electrical and building fabric maintenance on the base.

During a visit to RAF Leuchars in April, representatives from Inviron and other sponsors were photographed with the touring team in their new strips. The guests included Ken Donachie, Commercial Manager for Inviron's MTC team for Defence Estates, which encompasses RAF Leuchars and other Ministry of Defence sites at RAF Brize Norton, RAF Coningsby, RAF Leeming and RAF Odiham.

Highlights of the tour included a look round a fully operational Tornado F3 fighter aircraft belonging to the famous 111 (F) Squadron, and a visit to the Tornado simulator where the sponsors were given a demonstration of the aircraft's flying capabilities.

Mr Donachie comments: 'I can't thank RAF Leuchars and the Nomads enough for hosting such a wonderful visit and it was a pleasure to meet the players and see some of the operational aspects of the station. The tour of 111 (F) squadron was very interesting and seeing a Tornado aircraft up close was superb.' Spokesman for RAF Nomads and tour organiser, Craig Bones, explains the reasons for the South African trip: 'The main reason for touring this wonderful country is to re-visit the Children's Red Cross Hospital in Cape Town. The hospital functions without any Government funding and its outstanding success is due to the unswerving commitment from the medical staff and more importantly charitable donations from external agencies. After Leuchars Nomads visited the hospital in 2002, we adopted it as our dedicated charity and in the years since, have made cash donations with money generated from a wide variety of fund raising activities.'

The Nomads tour will encompass stays in Port Elizabeth, George and Knysna, and finish in Cape Town with a total of three fixtures against tough local opposition planned.

Throughout the tour, all personnel will be involved with charitable initiatives, Mr Bones adds. 'The sponsorship provides excellent support for the club during the tour and allows us to continue to develop our player base and infrastructure.'

Ken Donachie sums up: 'The dynamic and purposeful activities of the Nomads within the team unit align closely with Inviron's pro-active, team working approach to its business activities, and we are proud to be associated with the club as chief sponsor for its forthcoming tour.'
