The new GU range of thermally broken, aluminium, low threshold cills is ideal for both UPVC and timber frames. Suitable for inward and outward opening doors, the range is available in gold, and silver finishes and other colours upon request. The new cills conform to the new standard for thermal conductivity i.e. the inside surface temperature of cill must be kept above the dew point of + 9.2 °C to avoid condensation. They also meet the 20mm height regulations for low threshold cills, to ensure barrier free living and disabled access.
The cills comprise a standard inward and outward opening HTS thermally broken system. They come with an additional Eurogroove mounted gasket seal, to maintain the two seals, which is essential on UPVC frames. Profile specific moulded GRP blocks, in a choice of colours, are provided to ensure an accurate connection between the threshold and outer frame goal posts. They also feature side gasket seal pads and drip rails to direct rainfall away from the door.
GU is also offering a DKS system which has all the advantages of the HTS system - plus an extra trick up its sleeve. The DKS system has been specifically designed to accommodate adjustable shootbolt and mushroom keepers from the extensive GU range of die-cast and steel keepers.
When fitted, the keepers lie flush with the rest of the cill profile to maintain a smooth and attractive appearance. The gaps between the keepers and door jambs are filled in with an ingenious in-fill strip which becomes an integral part of the cill. This feature is particularly useful in low threshold French door installations, where fabricators need to accommodate mushroom or shootbolt locking systems at the foot and head of the door.
'The new low threshold cill solves a problem that has bugged fabricators for years,' commented Ian Ward of GU UK. 'Until now fabricators have had to `make do' on a French door with a low threshold. In many cases, that has meant drilling a hole in the cill and `hoping for the best'. This new solution is a properly engineered one and will give many years of service.'
In another industry exclusive, GU has launched the first low threshold cill that has been designed to accept keepers - solving a problem which has dogged fabricators for many years. The introduction of the cills means that for the first time, a complete system is available to professionally seal a door with a low threshold. | |
