PCS SQUAD DEFEATS STUDENT LIFE OF GRIME
Principle Cleaning Services (PCS)
05/10/2006
Principle Cleaning Services (PCS) has successfully tackled one of the toughest jobs in the industry - student accommodation. A crack team of PCS cleaners moved into the University of Hertfordshire complex at Hatfield to transform student rooms.
The cleaning company had been awarded the contract to prepare the accommodation into sparkling rooms for delegates for a number of international conferences through the summer.
The students moved out for a spring break in March and the PCS staff spent three days bringing the rooms up to hotel standard before 400 conference delegates arrived.
The rooms are not cleaned during term time so the Principle grime squad had a tough job on its hands but was given a room to use for training so the overall operation could run smoothly.
Under the new contract won by PCS, its cleaning teams will be in action on campus until September. Their duties include carrying out another deep clean when the students leave for the summer holidays and looking after more conference delegates throughout the summer. A further deep clean will be done before students arrive back in the autumn.
While the conferences were being staged at Hatfield 12 PCS cleaners plus team leaders were on call every day to refresh the delegates' rooms and provide towels and toiletries. Delegates stayed between one and 10 days with the PCS team changing bedding before new arrivals.
Principle's Senior Operations Manager Dulcie Goncalves, who was also involved in the project, said: 'We carried out a deep clean first which involved a lot of scrubbing; particularly of the showers.
'The client was very pleased with the results and in their feedback guests said the cleaning was very good.'
The conference delegates praised not only the cleanliness of the accommodation but also the helpful attitude of the cleaners.
Ms Goncalves said: 'Even the students commented on their return how clean the rooms were. This made all the hard work worthwhile and we are very proud of what we achieved.'
