 | | SEAL OF APPROVAL | | | Naue Geosynthetics | | 17/10/2006 | | | Bonding to poured concrete to form an integral seal to prevent water migration, the Bentofix BFG 5000 waterproofing system from Naue Geosynthetics has won approval from the British Board of AgrÉment with the issue of AgrÉment Certificate No. 05/4256.
This certificate relates to the product for use in waterproofing and damp-proofing underground structures.
It has been deemed as being satisfactory for Type A basement construction in grades up to and including 4 as defined in Table 1 of BS 8102:1990.
Bentofix is a needle-punched reinforced geosynthetic clay liner that uses two geotextile layers to encapsulate a filling of natural sodium bentonite clay. According to Naue, it is the only needlepunch with self-seal overlaps.
Between 2 and 3 million non-woven fibres per m² are punched through the clay mass of the sheet, and fixed into the woven geotextile.
It is this process that produces the composite's inherent strength.
When lengths of Bentofix are overlapped, moisture from the ground reacts with the sodium bentonite to create a gel seal - eliminating the need for the additional sealing process demanded by other systems.
In its analysis of the product, the BBA carried out a number of tests including the bond strength between Bentofix BFG 5000 and poured concrete, the resistance to liquid water both in the sheet and at the lap joint, the resistance to water vapour pressure, the resistance to puncture and ability to self-seal, its low temperature flexibility, and the stability of bentonite powder within the membrane during normal site handling.
The manufacturing process was examined, and the raw material specifications and quality control procedures establish. The BBA also carried out a survey of contractors to assess the practicability of application, and the performance in use.
