The range meets the needs of the modern builder for ease of use, regulatory approval, value for money and high performance. However, being based on natural materials they have very low embodied energy, are environmentally sustainable and produce no problems on eventual disposal (they can even be composted).

The clay boards, which are a composite of clay, reed and hessian, can be used as a dire[sic} replacement for plasterboard. They have the added advantages of impressively low thermal conductivity (0.14 W/m k) twinned with higher thermal mass, which improves overheating control. Additionally, clay boards play an important role in regulating moisture and odours and also in noise insulation.

NBT's reed boards are rigid building boards made from natural reeds laid parallel and tightly bound using thin gauge galvanised wire. They are ideal for internal use as a base for plastering on walls and ceilings and can be used against a solid background or over studs. The 20mm boards can also be used as a curved backing for plaster to achieve even 3-D curves.

Reed mats are also made from parallel, bound reeds but are supplied on a roll. They can be used against solid backgrounds, over studs or under joists.

Reed boards and mats are suitable for use with lime, clay or gypsum plasters in both new building and renovation work and can be used as a cost-effective and simple alternative timber laths.
