 | | LIF AND BEAMA CREATE POTENT PARTNERSHIP | | | BEAMALIF | | 10/05/2006 | | | Stuart Carter, outgoing president of the Lighting Industry Federation (LIF), announced at its annual luncheon (10 May 2006, Drapers' Hall) a major restructuring of the LIF organisation.
The main elements will forge a significant new partnership with BEAMA, the British electrotechnical manufacturers association.
The partnership will be known as BEAMALIF.
Many of LIF support services will be integrated with those of BEAMA to provide enhancements in services and cost elements, while also maintaining the LIF brand and its independent profile
Both organisations will work together on common areas of standards and lobbying to increase the voice of their members.
Ernest Magog will retire as Director of LIF from October this year.
He will remain involved with its activities as he will continue with his role as Chief Executive of Lumicom.
From that date he will be succeeded as Director of LIF by Eddie Taylor, who will manage this role alongside, and independently of, his current role as Chief Executive of Recolight.
Mr Carter said: "This is a really positive step forwards in LIF's history. Our partnership with a long established, highly regarded organisation as BEAMA is a natural progression - for both parties.
The venture makes us a more potent industry influence.
"Working together, we have much more collective punch than we would operating singly.
In addition, BEAMA offers many beneficial services - successful initiatives for countering the threat of inferior quality counterfeit products, statistical and legal knowledge, lobbying influence, ability with overseas missions and promotions."
As a result of the partnership, a more proactive council will be created and a strategic plan evolved, underpinning the future direction for the newly created organisation.
LIF personnel will integrate with BEAMA's team at its Westminster Tower, London HO.
More details will be announced this Autumn.
The partnership says the new initiative will ensure stronger representation in Brussels via BEAMA CEO Dave Dossett, who is also chairman of Orgalime, and Lou Bedocs as a CELMA Board member.
A stronger LIF brand will be developed through activities like its affiliate membership scheme, a new membership drive put in place, and new income streams established via additional value-adding services for its members such as an Affinity Insurance Scheme.
"Overall, we'll have a far stronger voice in Government and EU circles. Plus, our traditional work on standards, specifications and best practice will continue."
Incoming LIF President, Gerry O'Donnell added: "The new vision LIF has adopted in partnering with BEAMA makes considerable sense for our future development.
BEAMA operates in the same market place, and reaches and influences the same prime industry audiences - consulting engineers, distributors and contractors.
"We face the same issues too - electrical safety, product quality and after care - hence our involvement in the same standards making institutions - IEC, Cenelec and BSI.
We both have considerable strengths - parliamentary lobbying, training services, standards and legislation, influence in the UK and overseas." BEAMA CEO Dave Dossett commented: "We're delighted to have forged such a strong partnership with our LIF colleagues.
"It's a natural fit for both BEAMA and LIF, as we sell into the same marketplace and are affected by the same regulations.
"This means there will be many opportunities to share resources and employ a greater range of expertise than would otherwise be affordable.
Through this partnership, we provide a unified, far stronger industry voice as we welcome another respected federation into the growing BEAMA fold." Eddie Taylor commented he is looking forward to the new challenge:
