 | | THE HEMP LIME CONSTRUCTION PRODUCTS ASSOCIATION LAUNCHED | | | Hemp Lime Construction Products Association (HLCPA) | | 03/11/2006 | | | Several key players within the construction products industry have come together to form The Hemp Lime Construction Products Association (HLCPA). The purpose of the association is to promote the use of hemp-lime products within the construction industry, to draw up standards for its use and to act as a central voice on its benefits.
Hemp lime construction products provide a significant opportunity for mainstream construction to deliver sustainability on a scale not seen before. The products can actually help to reverse the damaging effects of greenhouse gases. They are not only beneficial to the environment but are also specified on the basis of their excellent performance and are available at comparable costs to conventional construction products.
Prof. Tom Woolley (Queens University Belfast), Chairman of the HLCPA Steering Committee commented, "The formation of the Hemp Lime Construction Products Association marks a major step in the rapid progress that is being made in providing viable hemp lime construction products to the mainstream construction industry. The potential for hemp lime use in conventional construction is beyond doubt among the most significant of developments that has occurred in recent years to help combat climate change."
The HLCPA, founded by Lhoist UK, Lime Technology Ltd and Hemcore Ltd, will be officially launched during Ecobuild 2006 at Earls Court, London on February 22nd and 23rd. The Ecobuild event is being held in parallel with Futurebuild and Regenex events collocated at Earls Court.
Construction with hemp lime products is simple, details are suitably robust and the construction techniques have a very low chance of error. This, therefore, leads to buildings that perform very well and with a low chance for defects. Hemp lime products are highly durable, fire resistant and pest resistant providing safe, resilient and valuable buildings and homes.
To preserve energy, hemp lime construction products used in housing have sufficient thermal mass in the system to store excess heat. Combined with the warm surface feel and passive control of humidity in the internal environment, hemp lime products lead to very comfortable living and low energy bills. | |
