Craig Phillips, original C4 Big Brother winner and TV DIY expert is to host this year's inaugural Interbuild Test The Trades competition at the NEC, Birmingham. The competition will take place on Sunday the first day of the Interbuild exhibition.

Craig, a former bricklayer by trade, who recently opened the Craig Phillips Building Skills Training Centre in Liverpool will play host to a selection of the industry's finest tradesmen as they battle it out in a competition designed to test practical knowledge and skill.

Test The Trades will involve a mixture of practical time-clock team challenges and quick fire questions rounds relating to six key trades. A team of pre-selected builders, electricians, plumbers, roofers, floorers and window /door Installers will go head to head under common test conditions to win the prestigious Interbuild title of Britain's Most Professional Trade. The overall winning team will win a Mercedes VITO 109CDI compact van, (voted International Van of the Year 2005).

"We're delighted to have Craig involved in the launch of Test The Trades," says Interbuild, Marketing Manager, Natalie Keller. "Test The Trades is all about looking to showcase the talent and lifeblood of the building materials sector in a fun and informative way."

"As professional trade skills become scarcer and harder to replace, there is a responsibility at all levels of the industry to keep the issue firmly on the national agenda. Craig's passion and commitment to skills shortage is clear to see at his new Building Skills Centre. He ran his own construction company for 10 years, employing 30 tradesmen. He understands the real life issues, which made him an obvious face for Test The Trades."

As the competition draws closer, there is now one question on everyone's mind - who will win the coveted Interbuild title of Britain's Most Professional Trade?
Do builders know more than plumbers? Is window installation more skilled than roofing? Are electrical applications the ultimate test of skill or do flooring contractors have all the answers?
All will be revealed on Sunday at the Interbuild, Test The Trades show down, NEC Birmingham.
