Deyan Sudjic to deliver awards speech in St. Paul's Church Interdisciplinary jury awards prize for integrated building 16 November 2005 was the entry deadline for Messe Frankfurt's prestigious Architecture+Technology Award. 44 international teams have submitted top-class projects realised in Europe. In addition to German teams, architectural and engineering offices from Belgium, France, Greece, the UK, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Switzerland, Turkey and the US are competing for the prize.

This marks the second time that Messe Frankfurt will be giving the Architecture+Technology Award. The 2006 awards ceremony will take place during Light+Building, the International Trade Fair for Architecture and Technology.

The prize is awarded for buildings that take into equal consideration form and function, aesthetics and technology, people and the environment. Constructions that meet these complex, modern demands must be planned holistically from the very beginning, and their architecture and building equipment optimally networked. The Architecture+Technology Award is the only European prize to consider both architectural and engineering achievement. Architects and engineers can only apply for the award as a team and must be the joint originators of the project. The competition also requires that the building have already been in full operation for one year. This is the only way to guarantee that the integrated concept can withstand actual conditions of use. With EUR 75,000 in prize money, the award is one of the most highly endowed architectural prizes in Europe. In addition to the main prize, a New Talents Award in the amount of EUR 10,000 will also be given.

The awards ceremony for the Architecture+Technology Award will take place on 23 April 2006 during Light+Building, at an invitation only event at St. Paul's Church in Frankfurt. Renowned architecture critic Deyan Sudjic will be delivering the awards speech. With its history and symbolism, St. Paul's Church is an ideal venue for this special ceremony.

The eleven-strong interdisciplinary jury for the Architecture+Technology Award assesses the holistic combination of architecture and technology. Five architects, three engineers, one publicist, one representative of a large project developer and one member of the European Commission will crown the winner.

The jury is comprised of the following members:
- Professor Meinhard von Gerkan, Gerkan, Marg and Partner, architects, Hamburg
- Massimiliano Fuksas, architect, Rome
- Francis Soler, architect, Paris
- Gert Wingardh, architect, Goteborg
- Finn Geipel, LIN - Finn Geipel Giulia Andi, Architects Urbanists, Berlin
- Professor Brian Cody, Institute for Buildings and Energy, Technical University of Graz
- Professor Roland Koenigsdorff, Biberach University of Applied SciencesProfessor Werner Sobek, Institute for Lightweight Construction, Design and Building, University of Stuttgart
- Martin Lepper, ECE Projektmanagement, Hamburg
- Dr. Heinrich Wefing, Berlin Arts Editor, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung
- Paolo Bertoldi, member, EU Commission

The jury will meet in January 2006 to select the buildings that best reflect the harmonious interplay between architecture and technology. The projects must involve new buildings, conversions or modernisations, which are in commercial or public use, and which are in Europe.

They must be not more than three years old and must have been in full operation for one year at the time the competition was announced (15 March 2005). The jury of experts will base their assessment on the following criteria:
• Integral combination of architecture and technology
• Uniqueness of combination of architecture and technology
• Integral involvement in city planning
• Quality of architecture and building technology
• Innovations in architecture and building technology
• Functional aspects
• Qualities of use
• Conservation of resources
• Low pollution and minimal environmental impact
• Treatment of existing structures
• Reasonable costs of construction and operation

The Architecture+Technology Award will be announced and awarded every three years, alternating between ISH and Light+Building. The prize is sponsored by Messe Frankfurt, the Federation of German Architects (BDA), the German Architecture Museum (DAM), the Building Climate Institute (FGK) and the German Association of Consulting Engineers (VBI), with the support of the European Commission Joint Research Centre JRC, as part of the European Green Building Programme.
