 | | GOING UNDERGROUND WITH PERIMATE | | | Dow Chemical Company Ltd | | 13/09/2006 | | | PERIMATE™ DI-A is the STYROFOAM™ solution for insulating the walls of basements and other below ground structures. PERIMATE, from Dow Chemicals, has been designed to offer maximum thermal performance matched with speed and ease of insulation making it the perfect choice for insulating any below ground heated room.
PERIMATE is made from STYROFOAM - the high performance, blue, rigid extruded foamed polystyrene insulation ubiquitous on UK construction sites. It is designed not only to provide effective insulation but also to give protection to the waterproofing membrane and assist drainage. PERIMATE will help contractors and specifiers to meet thermal performance requirements for underground projects to comply with BS EN 13370.
Dow’s PERIMATE features patented dovetail grooves cut into one side of the board to allow water to drain away efficiently. The boards’ long edges are shiplapped to allow complete continuity of installation and a thin layer of a specially designed filter fabric, bonded to the surface of the PERIMATE board, prevents soil particles from blocking the channels. It is simple to install being simply stuck to the tanking membrane using INSTA-STIK one-part polyurethane adhesive. This allows PERIMATE to provide immediate and robust protection.
The letter 'A' in PERIMATE™ DI-A’s name denotes Dow's environmentally advanced quality of blue extruded polystyrene insulation foams, which are blown with carbon dioxide. It therefore an Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) of zero and a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of less than five, thereby meeting BREEAM/EcoHome requirements
The amount of PERIMATE insulation required for basements is determined by the SAP 2005 or SBEM calculations but the average U-values must be 0.35 or less for walls and 0.25 or less for floors. Methods for calculating can be found in BS EN 13370 and the Approved Document Basements for Dwellings but Dow’s technical team will assist contractors and specifier in making U-value calculations. Dow first manufactured STYROFOAMTM more than 50 years ago, continually improving and updating it ever since to meet the demands of modern building insulation. The unrivalled technical properties of STYROFOAM give it low thermal conductivity, minimising the board thickness needed to achieve specific U Values, allowing greater design flexibility. Dow is a diversified chemical company which harnesses the power of science and technology to improve living daily. The company offers a broad range of innovative products and services to customers in more than 175 countries, helping them to provide everything from fresh water, food and pharmaceuticals, to paints, packaging and personal care products. Build on a commitment to its principles of sustainability, Dow has annual sales of $46 billion and employs 42,000 people worldwide. | |
