Lorient, an acknowledged leader in acoustic, smoke and fire containment systems, has come up with innovative solutions to meet the requirements of all three Approved Documents; spearheaded by the launch of its DS seal.
The DS is truly unique, offering an ingenious `3 in 1' integrated solution for acoustic, smoke and fire containment. All three regulations are taken into consideration. Successfully fire and smoke tested to BS 476 Pt.22:1987 and BS 476 Pt.31.1:1983; it meets the requirements of Document B. Unique dual fins provide continuous acoustic and smoke protection at ironmongery points - essential for meeting the new acoustic requirements of Approved Document E and finally the twin elastomeric fins provide exceptionally low frictional resistance to everyday opening and closing forces, taking the requirements of Document M into account.
During Lorient's extensive acoustic test programme, various seals were tested in a variety of door constructions. Tests were undertaken on a typical FD30S door assembly, in conjunction with a Lorient IS8010si automatic threshold seal.
Smoke seals with elastomeric fins were proven to provide a far superior acoustic performance to a traditional brush type seal. Lorient's DS seal gave a result of 31 dB Rw, whereas a typical brush type smoke seal only achieves 23dB Rw - clearly falling short of the requirements of Document E.
Besides being tested for outstanding acoustic performance, the DS seal has achieved over 1 million opening and closing cycles on a full size door assembly, without degradation, proving its tremendous durability in situ.
The DS seal is available in a variety of standard colours with black fins - to blend or contrast with surroundings as required; with a range of sizes to cover both 30 and 60 minute applications.
It carries both BBA and CERTIFIRE (CF330/CF341) accreditation and is available in standard lengths of 1 m and 2.1 m, with other lengths to special order. | |
