 | | COVERS TIMBER STRUCTURES BOOSTS PRODUCTION BY 400% | | | Covers Timber and Builders Merchants | | 29/11/2006 | | | Chichester-based Covers Timber Structures has witnessed a four hundred percent increase in productivity per operative after installing a new automated wall panel framing, sheeting and stacking line from the UK-based Industrial Timber Technology (ITT).
The new timber framing line has enabled the company's production capacity to grow to 1950-2000 linear meters a week since the gradual installation of the equipment, which began last May.
Suitable for eighty percent of all timber frame construction panel orders, the investment in the automated line was Covers Timber Structures' response to the UK Timber Frame Association's anticipated five-year share growth for timber frame, increasing from 15 to 30 percent of residential builds in the UK by 2011.
Malcolm Thomson, Managing Director at Cover Timber Structures, comments: 'We are ideally placed to take advantage of the future growth of the timber industry. The South East in particular has witnessed an upsurge in the popularity of timber, which is set to continue with the Government's extensive housing plans for the region.'
In line with current consumer and business trends favouring environmentally friendly solutions, the new equipment creates a 'paperless workshop' by displaying drawings on toughened computer screens to illustrate frame assemblies which call for the right components at precisely the right time.
Fred Muddle, production manager at Covers Timber Structures comments, 'Businesses are becoming more aware about environmental issues and are looking for ways to reduce their impact by changing the way they work.
'Our clients have adapted quickly to this new equipment and report that, as well as the environmental benefits, it makes the process of viewing and changing the designs more efficient.' | |
