 | | 3M INTRODUCES STYLISH SAFETY SPECTACLES FOR CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRIES | | | 3M Company | | 28/03/2007 | | | Filling a gap in the market for stylish protective eyewear for construction workers, 3M - leading innovator of workplace safety solutions - has introduced 4 new designs of safety spectacles that offers high levels of style and comfort.
The extended range of 3M Protective Eyewear includes:
The new 3M 2840 Comfort Line Spectacles that combine a number of features which set them apart from standard protective eyewear, such as anti-scratch coating, adjustable arms, UV protection, several tint options and an integrated browguard for increased safety. They are lightweight and feature soft inner padded arms for improved fit and protection. There are six lens options available, including clear, yellow, smoke, light gold mirror for indoor/outdoor applications, red/orange and Infra Red Shade 5, making them suitable for general construction activities, and certain welding applications such as gas cutting/brazing.
3M 2820 Classic Line Spectacles with light-weight wrap-around design offer an excellent field of vision, anti-scratch and anti-fog coating, UV protection, inclinable lens angle and flexible arms for increased fit and protection. They are EN 166:2002 compliant, CE marked and suitable for construction activites, DIY and industrial environments.
Adele Wills, Marketing Executive for 3M’s Occupational Health & Environmental Safety division explains, “Dust and wood chips are responsible for thousands of eye injuries each year and so construction workers, plumbers, insulators, glaziers, supervisors and electricians could face a high risk of eye injuries at work. Although protective eyewear is usually provided, the problem often lies with non-wear time as people sometimes either don’t like to wear them or take them off for carrying out specific tasks. In addition to providing excellent protection and vision - as the names suggest - our new 3M 2840 Comfort Line Spectacles are extremely stylish and comfortable, which helps to increase wearer acceptance – the mainstay of wearing eye protection. This model perfectly complements our initial range of protective eyewear, launched in 2005.”
With the minimum compensation for loss of sight in one eye around the £100,000 mark(1), protection against wind-blown or machine-driven dusts and foreign bodies has never been as important for employers in the construction industry. Adele adds, “Investing in good quality safety spectacles and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) from a trusted name such as 3M provides some peace of mind that there is the support and backing required to help select the correct eye protection for various applications, thus helping to reduce occupational injury.” | |
