Halstead Boiler’s new single band wireless programmable thermostatic control for use with Halstead Combination boilers is “quick, simple and easy to install,” according to Corgi-registered gas installer Gary Morris from Monkspath Plumbing and Heating.

“The RFTH1 control has absolutely no wiring as its battery operated,” says Gary, “It literally takes just a few minutes to install and does not require Part P certification.”

Whilst Gary has been installing Halstead Boilers for many years, this was his first installation of the company’s new heating control, which was launched in October. The replacement of an old system boiler with a Halstead Eden CBX 32 - premium performance combination condensing boiler was made at a semi-detached house in Birmingham, which presented the ideal opportunity to see just how easy the control was to install and programme.

“I discussed with the homeowners the choice of either a standard thermostatic control or the new radio frequency control, which is compatible with all Halstead combination boilers. Halstead’s RF control allows for a variety of temperatures to be set for different periods in a single day or week, which fitted in well with the homeowners’ busy lifestyles. And by using a combined time switch and room thermostat it controls the boiler operation to factory set functions or the customers’ own setting. With additional features such as 7-day programming, night and day time temperature setting, and even holiday and party functions, it was agreed that the Eden CBX 32 and RFTH1 was the best solution for their new heating system.”

Once Gary had completed the installation of the new Eden CBX 32 and Halstead’s raised external flue to take pluming up and away from adjacent windows and neighbouring properties, he then moved onto installing the RF control:

“All that was required was to remove the mechanical clock from the control panel of the boiler and replace it with the identically sized receiver, included with the RF unit. The unit’s transmitter communicates with this receiver using a radio frequency control device, whilst the thermostat controls the room temperature.

“The transmitter, which can be sited up to 30 metres from the boiler, was fixed to a wall without a radiator, which is important for it to be totally effective as the thermostat within the control sets a precedent for the temperature of the house. With absolutely no wiring required, its installation was just a case of inserting the batteries and then fixing the transmitter to the wall, which took no more than a few minutes,” said Gary. “There was no fiddling around with wires or channelling into the walls required, which saved me and the homeowner both time and mess. Setting up the radio link between the receiver and transmitter was a quick and simple process which enabled the programmes to be set in accordance with the householders requirements. I’ll definitely be installing this one again.”

Homeowner Jonathan Malin added “The control has a variety of settings to choose from to suit my needs and the simple user guide ensures it is easy to change settings if you need to. The house is always the right temperature at the right time thanks to Halstead.”

Halstead’s Richard Braid concludes: “The new RFTH1 marks a new phase in Halstead’s product offer and demonstrates the company’s commitment to continue to deliver products that are simple and quick to install and which also meet homeowners’ lifestyle requirements. The RFTH1 is ideal for heating system upgrades and can be fitted during installation or retrospectively and at just approximately £95, the unit also delivers a cost effective solution for the installer and the homeowner.

“Gary’s experience of the RFTH1 demonstrates just how straight-forward it is to install and programme, and for heating engineers looking to fit a wireless programmable thermostatic control for their customer, it is an obvious choice.”

As part of an unprecedented nationwide promotion offered by Halstead, installers purchasing a Halstead Eden CBX condensing boiler before the 31st March 2007 will receive a free RFTH1 Radio Frequency Wireless Programmable Thermostatic Control.
