The Rooflight Company

Occupiers of a new residential development by George Wimpey in the Hertfordshire town of Ware are to benefit from the illuminating properties of products designed and supplied by specialist manufacturer the Rooflight Company. Focal Point comprises 88 contemporary one and two bedroom apartments sited in a traditional setting between Station Road and Viaduct Road, and offers a collection of warm, bright and welcoming living spaces close to both city and countryside.

Architect Scott Robinson selected the Conservation Rooflight® from the Rooflight Company to bring natural light into the apartment interiors after consultation with planning officer Tim Hagyard. The models selected are faithful reproductions of Victorian cast iron rooflights, with a very low profile, fine steel lines and genuine glazing bars. Scott says: "In order to blend in with the look of this development we required rooflights with an authentically traditional appearance as well as high performance standards. With these models, no special measures are required to obtain a flush finish in the roof and, crucially, they also comply with planning requirements for listed buildings and conservation areas."

Available in a wide range of sizes, in addition to a special bespoke rooflight design service provided by its manufacturer, the Conservation Rooflight® is a popular choice with English Heritage and The National Trust. Its proven performance and period look help to make gaining planning approval a more straightforward process. Featuring a robust 3mm steel frame, the standard double glazed unit surpasses current Part L building regulation requirements, and the patented thermal lining Thermoliner® ensures no condensation occurs. Exceeding weather tightness test BS6375: Part 1:1989 up to Hurricane Force 12, the rooflights also have a high degree of air tightness.

22 Standard CR-10 and 41 CR-15 Conservation Rooflights® were supplied for the project, along with 6 Studio Designer Range (SDR) CR-15 rooflights, each featuring 2 casements on one baseplate. The Studio Rooflight range shares the same qualities as the Conservation Rooflight® and utilizes casements from this range, but it is designed for projects requiring a run of finely detailed, low profile rooflights assembled onto one single baseplate.

Marketing Manager Neil Liddell explains: "The advantage of using one baseplate is that it allows the internal and external aspect of the rooflights to remain uninterrupted by rafters. A simple channel links the casements and the result is a completely seamless run of rooflights, any or all of which can be opened." The range allows for 13 different sizes and up to five casements per baseplate, with most BS colours and glazing options available. Neil continues: "As they are suitable for any type of roof construction, we can provide advice and solutions for every application."

The Conservation Rooflight® frame is guaranteed for 15 years.
